Many advances are being made both in quantum computing as well as in nuclear fusion and in addition much work is being done to make Graphene a viable material commercially and industrially.

Nuclear fusion reactor

ITER (pictured above) is an international program of scientific cooperation to develop a reactor nuclear fusion type TOKAMAK feasible is developing; but it is experimental in nature and there is still a long way to go before it is ready, its objective is not to provide energy, but only to show that the creation of a reactor of this type is possible and viable.

Therefore nuclear fusion will not have an effect for now; However, when it is achieved, it is likely to open the way to a new era in the history of humanity because it works; this type of reactors would be able to provide enough energy for the entire planet, theoretically diminishing conflicts over natural energy resources and with this war.

Quantum Computers

The other technology is the Quantum computers , there are several currently, of which one of the most famous is D - Wave

These machines allow calculations that traditional computers would take literally millions of years to make and also are capable of performing medical simulations and complex physical systems for the development of all kinds of technologies.

While they already exist; still its use is not extended and like the traditional ones at the time, the quantum ones are in their infancy , which is why they occupy entire rooms , they are extremely heavy and bulky and consume enormous amounts of energy.

They are reserved for scientific purposes and to improve the quantum machines themselves .

Graphene

The graphene is a material similar to graphite , accidentally discovered by two researchers, Andrey Gueim and Konstantin Novoselov . In this the pure carbon atoms are arranged hexagonally and form very thin sheets; in fact of only 2 physical dimensions, since the height of it is that of a carbon atom , because what they have is an atom of thickness. These sheets of a single atom of thickness are 200 times more resistant than the strongest current steel alloy .

Its density is similar to that of the already widely used carbon fiber and is also 5 times lighter than aluminum. This density is 0.54 g / cm ^ 3

This material has the potential to revolutionize the entire technological industry, from computers, communications, vehicles, spacecraft, satellites, medicine and almost all fields, besides being based on carbon, abundant material on planet earth, this could mean a step unprecedented in the technological history of humanity.

Some of its main characteristics are:

These technologies could change the world a lot in 5 years or more and open the way to a new scientific and industrial revolution for the good of all.

Give a little context before answering the question.

Since the birth of the Android operating system has always been believed that Android is "Free" and that anyone with a computer and Android Studio SDK could modify Android pleasure and install it on any device. This is part lie and part truth. What is true is that any simple user can do what I just mentioned without paying a single dollar to Google.

What is a lie is that a company like Samsung, Sony, LG, etc ... can do this. If a company like the one mentioned wants to install Android to its devices, it will have to pay a "Google Mobile Services" license to Google. This license includes the right to use the Android operating system along with the Google Play applications that are Maps, Gmail, you tube Etc ... For example, if one of these companies seeks to put Android to 100,000 devices, it would have to pay around $ 75,000 , that is, Google takes $ 1.3 dollars per device. To make the comparison, when Windows Phone was still popular, Microsoft charged $ 15 for the license per device.

Now, my point after all this context is that Android is a phenomenal success worldwide and currently has 88% of the market share worldwide (against 11% of iOS) due to 2 simple reasons:

1.-It is an operating system that as a company, it costs you very cheap to install it on your devices.

2.- It is a manageable, adaptable and friendly operating system for any electronic device. Android is used by important companies worldwide such as Samsung who use Android as the main OS of their devices since 2009, and as Samsung does, there are so small companies around the world that produce Android devices with very low price.

The fragmentation of Android is massive, something contrary to iOS which is an operating system that only works for Apple devices.

iOS dominated the market share of 2007 (When iOS was born with the first iPhone) until the first quarter of 2010 where 15.5% of cell phones in the market had iOS versus 9.7% that had Android. The rest of the market was divided between Blackberry and Symbian (Nokia) From the second quarter of 2010 on Android has always been in the lead.

As I mentioned earlier, Android currently has 88% and so it will continue, why do you imagine that someday Samsung will produce a phone with iOS as the main operating system?

I do not think so.

(Thanks for the A2A.) I can think of several that could give substantial changes to our modus vivendi in the short term:

  • The science of modern materials, highlighting metamaterials and nanomaterials
  • The proof of the Riemann hypothesis (if it is genuine)
  • The quantum computer
  • CRISPR and the designer genes
  • Cultured tissues and organs (alone or in chimeras ) or created by specialized 3D printing
  • Extended reality
  • Resurgence of artificial intelligence for business (beyond data science).
  • The increasing efficiency of solar energy collectors

Key Omissions:

  • The electric car (and other sustainable technologies) . While most countries use fossil fuel to power their electric grid, the battery car only moves the problem to another level. To be effective, everyone would have to achieve Costa Rica's energy sustainability (although there are justified reasons to have reservations about wind turbines .) In addition, battery manufacturing technology continues to be harmful to the environment and benefits subject to a limitation. antidemocratic of vehicular property. We haveto get to the sustainable car (and energy), but for the moment, many of the measures are more populist than effective. I do not like to give bad news, but to get where you want you have to know exactly where you start from.
  • The Internet of Things . Sorting groceries from your refrigerator is something you can already do on your computer. Sure, intelligent home appliances are supposed to do these kinds of things for the buyer alone, but the prices of these technologies make them unavailable and it is unlikely that this situation will change enough to have a genuine impact on our lives.
  • Cure of Cancer . Recent results are welcome contributions, but statistically, marginal. There are justified ethical doubts about much of the pharmaceutical research (which is not a big novelty in this industry.)
